I have been trying to find the words for you. I have been searching for the ones that will combine to create paragraphs of life and light to illuminate each of your steps; the ones that will build the foundation from which you will stand on to help you feel strong; the ones that will swell up in your soul and force you to confront the infinite worth that is inherently yours.
But the more I search, Beauty, the quicker I have reached the conclusion that they have to be found from somewhere within yourself. You have to find them because until you do, they won’t carry worth or weight; they will not hold heightened significance in your own heart if they come from me. These words are the words embodied in the act of living like you’re enough. They are tangled up in every essence of the beauty within your own spirit. They are firm and strong and able to withstand the storming thoughts of inadequacies. Because those thoughts, they do that relentlessly: storm. They flood your mind and heart so fast and strong that you might actually believe them to be true. You might actually believe the lies of not good enough because they can be so damn persistent, and what’s a girl to do?
This weekend those thoughts stormed through my brain like a hurricane, and the truth stood in my mind like an old rickety wooden shack waiting to be blown away. Like a broken record I kept repeating to myself, “Don’t make yourself small. Don’t make yourself small. Don’t make yourself small.” I was searching for truth in other spaces, and standing the words of wiser ones who have gone before me, but it was it was on the floors of my mind the entire time. Though it appeared to be in shambles from the winds of “not good enough” and “you’re smaller than they are,” it was waiting for me all along. I just had to see it, pick it up, and start putting it back together to build a new truth that was stronger than before. I had to choose to see beauty in the shambles that lay on the floors inside of me, and begin the process of putting it back together to believe it as truth in my own heart.
Its tough discovering the true words that bring definition to the incredible being of you. I mean, how do you choose those, which will have influence over your decisions and actions? How do you choose those from which you will live by?
I guess it starts with this question: Who do you want to be? This journey begins with the choice to listen to the words that bring life and light inside the space that we need to make home: ourselves. Create home within yourself. Create a space inside of that beautiful mind of yours that overflows past the brim with love and welcome and warmth. This space holds our deepest thoughts, desires, and fears. It guides the words we speak and the steps we find the courage to take. Learn to love this space and nurture it as if it was a treasure that was entrusted to you, because it was. Don’t make yourself small because you are a treasure.
The discovery of the treasure of you doesn’t come with a map or clues. You have to search for yourself in all of the spaces that tug at the strings of your heart. You have to find that place that fuels and encourages your journey and when you find it you have to trust it. Everyday, you have to believe the words that tell you you’re enough, that you were created with intent and purpose to fulfill the dances of your heart.
We’re in this together, now. I wouldn’t be writing these words if I didn’t need to read them and believe them as truth in my own heart.
So, I’ll start us off with the first word that will begin the craft of our journeys: strong. We are strong. We can accomplish those adventures that our minds dream of. We are capable of enduring and we are prepared for the hardships that will ensue in the pursuit of these dreams. We are strong enough to rebuild our rickety shacks of truth into mansions that don’t crumble in the storm. We are warriors together, so I’ll either meet you personally in my inbox or in my words on the other side of the screen.
In pursuit of adventure and strength,
